Oxford Sociology is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the British Academy International Fellowships 2026.

The International Fellowships scheme enables researchers to work for two years at a UK institution to build a globally connected, mobile research and innovation workforce.

The objectives of this scheme are as follows:

  • Attract talented international early career researchers to establish and conduct their research in the UK.
  • Support international early career researchers to pursue high-quality and innovative lines of research.
  • Provide international early career researchers opportunities to acquire and transfer new skills and knowledge through training and career development.
  • Foster long-term relationships through networking opportunities and the International Fellowships alumni programme.

It offers two years of funding for researchers who have fewer than five years of active full-time postdoctoral experience at the time of application.

Applicants who wish to apply for this funding with Oxford Sociology must secure the support of a member of the Faculty to act as a mentor. This faculty member will provide mentoring, support, and guidance throughout the duration of the fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must:

  • Have a PhD (applicants in the final stages of their PhD will be accepted provided that the PhD will be completed (including viva) before the Final Awards Committee meets on the 1 June 2026)
  • No more than five years of active full-time postdoctoral experience at the time of application (discounting career breaks but including teaching experience and/or time spent in industry)
  • Be working outside the UK
  • Not hold UK citizenship
  • Be competent in spoken and written English
  • Have a clearly defined and mutually-beneficial research proposal agreed with a UK host researcher

If you are interested in applying for the scheme with the Department, please fill in the application form and submit to research@sociology.ox.ac.uk, along with an academic CV.

Please note, mentorship must be discussed and agreed with the faculty member prior to submission.

Please email research@sociology.ox.ac.uk with any questions.
