Parking

Car parking is very restricted, both at the Department itself and within the centre of Oxford generally. Worcester Street car park is opposite the Department, but there are also five 'Park and Ride' car parks which provide day return bus travel to the city centre. For full details, please see the Oxford Park and Ride information.

From the North (Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester):

Take the M40, then the A34. Take the A44 exit towards Oxford, and at Peartree Roundabout, take the 2nd exit and follow the A4144 (Woodstock Road) into Central Oxford. Turn right onto Beaumont Street, then left onto Worcester Street. Follow this road until you meet two small roundabouts. At the 1st roundabout, take the 1st exist, before also taking the 1st exit at the 2nd roundabout, onto Park End Street. The Department is on the right just across the river.

Park & Ride: Oxford Parkway (A34), Peartree (A34)

From the North-East (Cambridge, Milton Keynes):

Take the A421 before joining the A43. At Cherwell Roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the M40 (South) before joining the A34. At Peartree Roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the A44 and follow the A4144 (Woodstock Road) into Central Oxford. Turn right onto Beaumont Street, then left onto Worcester Street. Follow this road until you meet two small roundabouts. At the 1st roundabout, take the 1st exist, before also taking the 1st exit at the 2nd roundabout, onto Park End Street. The Department is on the right just across the river.

From the East (London):

Take the M40, before joining the A40 at Junction 8. Take the exit for Marston/Elsfield and turn onto Marsh Lane (B4150), then right onto Cherwell Drive (B4495). Turn left onto Banbury Road and continue on to St Giles. Turn right onto Beaumont Street, then left onto Worcester Street. Follow this road until you meet two small roundabouts. At the 1st roundabout, take the 1st exist, before also taking the 1st exit at the 2nd roundabout, onto Park End Street. The Department is on the right just across the river.

Park & Ride: Thornhill (A40)

From the South (Didcot, Southampton):

Take the A34 to the Oxford Ring Road and join the Southern By-Pass Road. Follow directions for the A4144 (Abingdon Road) and join the A420. Take the 2nd exit at the roundabout at the end of Hollybush Row. The Department is on the right just across the river.

Park & Ride: Redbridge (A34)

From the West (Bristol, Swindon):

Take the A420 towards Oxford and at the Botley Interchange, take the Southern By-Pass Road (A34). Follow directions for the A4144 (Abingdon Road) and rejoin the A420. Take the 2nd exit at the roundabout at the end of Hollybush Row. The Department is on the right just across the river.

Park & Ride: Seacourt (Botley Road)

Coach Station & Services

The coach station is located at Gloucester Green, off George Street. Frequent services (approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes duration) are provided from several points in London by the Oxford Tube. National Express and other companies serve a range of other cities.

Station to Department

The Department is less than 0.2km to the West of the coach station. Turn right onto George Street, then left onto Worcester Street and right onto Park End Street. The entrance to the Department is on your left, a few metres down Tidmarsh Lane.

Rail Station & Services

The railway station is located just off Park End Street. There are regular services from London, and from Birmingham and other stations to the North.

Station to Department

The Department is less than 0.5 kilometres to the East of the railway station, straight along Park End Street and immediately on your right when you have crossed the bridge. The main entrance is found on Tidmarsh Lane. It is approximately a 6 minute walk. Alternatively there is a taxi rank outside the station.

Airports

There are regular coach services to Oxford from both London Heathrow and Gatwick Airports (timetables here), arriving at Gloucester Green coach station.

Station to Department

The Department is less than 0.2km to the West of the coach station. Turn right onto George Street, then left onto Worcester Street and right onto Park End Street. The entrance to the Department is on your left, a few metres down Tidmarsh Lane.

Bike stands are available on Tidmarsh Lane on the opposite side of the street and secure bike parking is available to the back of the Department building.
