Su Ertekin-Taner
MPhil Student
Su Ertekin-Taner is an MPhil candidate in Sociology and Demography and a Clarendon Scholar. She is interested in how social classification systems (e.g., surveys and other metrics, law) organise gender, sexuality, and sex, and how these systems shape social difference and inequality.
Her research examines how classification systems are produced, policed, and reproduced across local and transnational contexts, as well as the legal effects of these processes. She is particularly interested in what happens when identities that do not map neatly onto institutional categories are rendered into discrete categories through institutional practices. Alongside these substantive interests, she applies novel quantitative methods to the study of social classification and inequality.
