DNA4Science gets ERC Proof of Concept Grant

Professor Melinda Mills has has been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept Award for DNA4Science, a citizen-science project aimed at ethically distributing genetic data currently held by direct-to-consumer genetics companies and with limited access to scientist. The enterprise aims to allow individual citizens to safely and anonymously donate their genetic data to be ethically re-used by verified researchers, and is committed to transparency and security.

Professor Mills said: 'It's very exciting. People have the right to access their own records...and if they donate to the project, it will unlock access to data desperately needed by a wider range of researchers. Through DNA4Science, we could see lower treatment costs and hasten drugs coming to market. It will be revolutionary.'
